What my “Teddy Bear” Needed and What many others desperately need

Image

For those who have visited my blog before, you may know that I have a dog named Finley. Finley is a Jack Russell Terrier (possibly a mix) puppy. However, some of you may not know that I have another dog named Roscoe. Yes Roscoe, as in Roscoe’s fried chicken and waffles. My parents agreed on bringing one dog into the family from the pound, but when I met both dogs I was at a stalemate. I couldn’t decide. We could adopt Finley, he was adorable, sweet, and loved to lick my face. He was so cute, and in such high demand. There were about 7 families during the time we were looking at him, who wanted to know if he was up for adoption because they wanted him. Or we could pick Roscoe. Roscoe is 4 years old and he’s half Cardigan and half Welsh Corgi. Whenever I looked at him he had this pant that looked liked he was smiling, he had such charisma. It was a hard choice. When we put them next to each other though, they got along, so we decided to get them both (thanks mom and dad!).

However, Finley and Roscoe weren’t my original choices.

This is Frankie. At the beginning of summer, I went to the animal shelter once and I saw this dog. I was absolutely in love with him. I was heartbroken, he was so sweet, gentle and cute. He was being looked over though for a few reasons: 1. he was a senior dog, not many people want seniors because they have less time to enjoy the dog, 2. he had some “hot spots” on his skin, from a rash or something, it made him appear ill. 3. he was a long haired weiner dog, long haired dogs shed. To see his happy face in this dark and dreary cell was terrible. The pavement is wet because the workers hose it down in the morning to clean off the feces, so the dogs were always shivering. There aren’t a lot of donations or funds of nice and warm blankets. If they had anything, they would get holey, ragged towels. I wanted him so bad, but my parents wouldn’t let me have him. So I became determined to find a better life for him, a life with me. I made a contract with my parents, if I did my chores every single day and got signatures from them 2x a day as proof then I would be able to get a dog. The contract ended at the end of summer. I thought I could do it, I was determined to find Frankie a better home, I loved the dog so much and watching him suffer was terrible. I made his picture my phone wallpaper and visited him almost every week. No one really understood my love for him, they just cast him aside as an “option,” my mom would say he’s too old. My grandparents looked over and said “he’s ugly” or “why does he look so ill?”

Unfortunately, I was never able to make him mine. The week before my contract was over I went to visit him. I was so excited to finally make him mine, and tell the ladies that work there that I could take him home. He had just been swept up by a rescue. The rescue didn’t like the treatment or attention he was receiving so they took him to the Los Angeles Dachshund Rescue. I was crushed, my parents weren’t even that into the idea of adopting Frankie in the first place, the fact that he was in L.A. made it harder. Not to mention the new shelter was very strict on who could adopt their dogs, it didn’t look like our house would pass the inspection for a dachshund.

So here on my blog I propose an idea to the world, a lesson to be learned from this story. Please. Go adopt. Give a pet a loving home, you will be surprised on how much they will melt your heart and brighten your day. They will immediately turn from pet to family. Especially if it’s a senior, I know they don’t live as long, but think of the impact you make on that animal. It’s a need we need to feed. An animal’s need. An animal who is crying every night, just dreaming of having a loving and caring family like you.

Feeding a Mom’s need of sweets for kids & Easy Clean Up

This post is a combined food and fun category. Some moms deal with the frustration of sweet items for their kids, with easy clean up. I mean, candy is okay, if you’re willing to deal with the possibility of sticking in hair, or with blue fingers or tongues. That isn’t a pretty sight. What you need is some good, old fashioned ice cream. The kind that brings kids to the yard, where they have to make their own ice cream, so they can appreciate the ice cream they have as well as a delicious treat. This activity is great for kids because they will be so tuckered out after making the ice cream, that after eating it they may be off to bed soon after.

The end product should sort of resemble this. If my instructions are in anyway confusing, there are copies or different versions of it on the internet, so don’t fret. This is just the recipe my mom used, and tips I have learned from making this “ice cream” in a bag.

Materials:

I gallon sized Ziploc Bag

1/2 cup of rock salt (just about any salt will work, but if the salt is in bigger chunks it works better)

Ice Cubes

——-

1 pint size ziploc bag (this is where the actual ice cream will be made)

1 cup of half and half

2 tablespoons of sugar (but if you like a lot a sugar, you may add more. However, if you add too much the texture may start to feel grainy).

1/2 teaspoon of vanilla

Optional: Any additional ice cream toppings, e.g whip cream, sprinkles, etc.

1. Get the gallon size ziploc bag and fill the bag about half way full with ice. Then add in the rock salt.

2. Get the pint size ziploc bag and fill the bag with the half and half, sugar, and vanilla. Put in harder toppings as well, such as chocolate chips or nuts.

3. Place the the pint size bag into the gallon size bag between all the ice.

4. Shake the bag non-stop for 5-10 minutes, this will cause the ice cream to harden. Feel the pint size bag, but don’t stop shaking the bag until desired hardness is achieved.

5. Grab a spoon and enjoy the ice cream right out of the bag!

Tips:

– The salt in the bag, causes the temperature of the ice to drop, which causes the ice ice cream to freeze faster. Adding salt decreases the temperature, but after this is done, do not add in anymore ice. The ice will raise the temperature and it will take longer for the ice cream to freeze.

– If you want more of a soft serve ice cream, then an approach that works is to shake the bag for about 5 minutes, then stop for 5 minutes, then shake it again. Repeat this process for about 15 or 20 minutes.

– If you want to make a bunch of ice cream, or just make it more scoopable, then shake the bag for about 15 minutes, then place it in the freezer for an hour.

The ice cream is delicious, simple, and hey no mess, no dishes to wash, just baggies to throw away. It’s a fun activity as well, and shows the magic of how ice cream is created and really taught me to appreciate the time and effort that goes into making ice cream. I hope you all try this soon in the future, and happy ice cream making !

Feed the SWEET TOOTH !

Image

The most important step about feeding the need is to realize what the people want. I think that is the main reason that oreo balls were discovered. Oreo balls are one of the most delectable desserts that can be had. One of the multiple ways that they “feed the need,” is that they are so easy to make. Plus, they’re so neat and convenient! The simplicity of the recipe, and the fact that it is perfectly travel/bite size, will have moms on their knees begging for the recipe. They’re that delicious. Whenever my mom makes them, they are gone in heartbeat, and hardly anyone ever waits until the refrigeration process is complete because no one can ever wait that long. These oreo cookie balls taste just like cookies and cream ice cream, but without the ice cream! It saves the hassle of getting out the ice cream and the ice cream scooper, then the bowl and having to wash everything. These oreo cookie balls are no mess, easy and hey no dishes to wash!…

Okay enough with the praise, now it’s time for the recipe!

What you’ll need:

-1 package of Cream Cheese (softened)

-16 oz of  melting chocolate (that’s about 4 packages)

-36 oreo cookies crushed (that’s about 3 cups)

1. Scoop out the cream from each of the oreos and set them aside. (This step can be skipped, but it makes the cream towards the end frothier).

2. Place the chocolate cookie parts of the oreos in a big ziploc baggie and crush them.

3. Mix the cream cheese and cream from the cookies together with an electric beater. (Or if the first step was skipped, just mix the crumbs of the cookies and the cream chese together).

4. Mix the cream cheese and cream from cookies filling back with the oreo crumbs and shape them into balls.

5. Place the oreo balls on a sheet covered in wax paper.

6. Melt the chocolate, place the oreo balls on a stick and dip them in the chocolate.

7. Optional: Melt white chocolate as well and put some on top of the milk/dark chocolate on the oreo balls in a criss cross pattern.

8. Place the oreo balls on a sheet which is covered in wax paper into the fridge for at least one hour.

These oreo balls are delicious and I highly reccomend them! They are sweet, so they should be enjoyed with a nice glass of milk. These will definitely feed your sweet tooth, and save a potential mess from happening.

Happy eating and making !

what may feed my need and Finley’s

Here is a picture of my little bugger. His name is Finley and I adopted him from the animal shelter when he was 2 months old. He is now 3 months old and has changed so much. However, when adopting him one of the things I didn’t take into account was potty training. UGH! I mean I love this puppy so much, but sometimes it’s hard to be happy about coming home to see him because I know that there will be like six piles of poop to clean up. In English class, we are learning about how to take an idea and turn it into something that can be sold in the market place. I feel that a GREAT idea would be an inexpensive way to potty train a dog, that is fast and easy. Maybe even online? I think that would REALLY help me out here. It’s only been a month, and I’m so tired of picking up all his fecal matter. He knows he’s done something wrong when he goes to the bathroom in the house because as soon as he does, he runs away, and doesn’t come when I call him. Don’t get the wrong impression of Finley, he’s a great dog. I mean look how cute he is in this picture. His ears flop around when he runs fast or is excited, and he loves to curl up with anyone and just fall asleep, plus he’s very loving. It’s just that I can’t deal with crap anymore. (hahaha get it? so punny.) I just think an idea that may grow in idea farming is maybe an online, easy way to train dogs. I think having this program online would be the best because I don’t really have much time inbetween sports, school, my dogs, and just trying to live my life. By posting this I think that maybe the seed may become fertilized in the minds of the viewers, so maybe one day this program may become a reality. Finley won’t have to run away from me every time he goes to the bathroom in the house and I can enjoy my house free of this business, the way it should be.

The Beginning of a New Era

Hello friends!

My name is Alyssa and welcome to my tumblr! It’s called food, fun and fur for a reason.

In the future I will be posting pictures and recipes of food. I mean who doesn’t like food? I am a total food lover, and just looking at delicious recipes and food makes me first of all hungry, as well as happy, to see what I can create after putting a few simple ingredients together. It definitely adds variety to my life and my plate. These recipes may not be “gourment,” because hey, I haven’t had much experience cooking to be perfectly honest, but I will definitely have good recipes to share.

This will be my first recipe I will be posting, so stay tuned. I warn you, common side effects of ingesting these “oreo balls” causes a sugar rush, a never ending flow of ecstatic happiness, and an excessive drooling for more. They taste like cookies and cream ice cream without the ice cream. YUMMY !

On this tumblr page, I also want to talk about fun. The word fun is an entity that can embody many things. This includes fun ideas or activities, or fun-e (get it like funny?) so punny… I think everyone sometimes have rough patches in their lives that they really need to ignore and absorb themselves into something that can take their mind of things. Under this topic, I will include a few positive messages as well, because sometimes it’s fun to be reinspired and have faith in the world once again. Please stick through this topic with me. I may try to be funny, and it might be terrible, I make a lot of lame jokes, but I try right? I just want to try my best, and if I can get at least one person to read a post under this category and smile, to make a difference, I know I have succeeded.

Ellen Degeneres is my inspiration. I am definitely not a comedian like her, but I hope to crack some jokes, or bring up some new fun ideas like she does!

The last category I will be talking about on tumblr is fur! Not literal fur, like clothing, but my furry friends! My house has become an anarchy, my pets are winning the great battle of government. The animals outnumber the humans! I have two dogs, two cats, and two tortoises. The remaining posts will be about them and the adventures I have with them, either real or made up stories. They really mean the world to me, and make enduring hard times that much easier. I will also be posting about other kinds of animals too!

My first pet that I will be introducing is my dog Finley! He’s a 3 month old jack russell terrier mix. This isn’t a real picture of him unfortunately, because he’s being stubborn at the moment, but he kind of looks like this puppy! He’s really cute, but he’s mischievous as well (as you all will soon find out)!

I really hope this tumblr interests you. Stick around for more food, fun and fur!
